Tips for composing children's songs

The first step when composing should be to choose the theme of the song . There are numerous sources of inspiration for this: the stories we tell our son, the characters in books, movies or series, the mascot of the home or the games we give him, among others.

If the subject chosen is a fictional character , the lyrics of the song could be about the characteristics of this character: how he is dressed, how he is (grumpy, funny, lazy ...), what he does ... With this data, the song is written in a simple way but, at the same time, encourage the child to enrich his vocabulary with new names, verbs and adjectives.

When the song is going to be long and has both stanzas and chorus, it is better to start writing the latter first. Maybe it works perfectly by itself and you do not have to try to follow it. Then the most difficult moment would come, the melody.

Finding the perfect music for our lyrics
When composing, if you do not have a musical knowledge that allows us to understand the harmonies and how to combine them, it is preferable to take inspiration from the melodies that already exist .
