Music is not only inspiration: steps to write a song

Music has different aspects and nuances that can be controlled, even developed in a systematic way. We all know that the instrumental technique requires a series of steps to be carried out so that all sound success results. The technique is fundamental for the composer, to the point that without it it would be impossible to create a work of value. Composition is also an indispensable element for the author, as Antón García Abril said: "Composition is not taught, it is learned".
Great musical works are born from inspiration. Sometimes it is better to write everything that goes through our thoughts; translate our sentimental situation through lyrics may end up becoming fantastic melodies full of life. 
In the virtual world there are already tools with which you can create musical works, such is the case of Cubase Pro, whose main function is to produce digital audio. Currently there are versions or updates that make the program an invaluable experience.
Digital Editor Andy Prince and Cubase Pro 8 analyzed several key elements of the composition while using their DAW, and through MusicTech Magazine they released six steps to write a song. Then we present them to you so you can experience a sound adventure:

1.Introduction to song forms
A good vocal melody with memorable movement is enough to hook a listener, as long as we are skilled with words and storytelling. Some of the most popular forms of the song are fundamental and part from how to plan a track, to how to connect and pick up our instrument, they can also be attached or simply used as starting points and thus begin to sort and hum our new melody.

2. Keys Comprehension
The key of a piece of music is the major or minor scale that rotates in its environment. In each key there are seven chords, each of these are correlated to the seven notes of the scale. The fundamental note of each key is known as the tonic, it is the center of the seven key notes. For example, the fundamental note of the C major scale is note C.


3. The art of melody
If the front-line melody is not up to the task, then the song is not going anywhere.
The essential elements of the composition have been previously mentioned, some forms are basic such as writing, key that maintains a pleasant position. Now we move on to what is undoubtedly the most important element of the song: the melody.
The vocal melody of a song, also known as 'first line', is located in the heart of the composer, and that makes it a memorable song. As with most things, there is a degree of subjectivity, many composers do not understand exactly what they are doing, but the human mind is instinctively adopting melodic functions.
The key to everything is experimentation.


4. Rhythmic considerations
We have seen several musical elements that support the structure of the song, the form, the selection of a key and then the creation of its melody. Now we turn to an important factor that will be achieved only with an excellent piece of music: rhythm. As we approach the rhythm, we do not limit ourselves to saying the drums and percussion, but we are talking about the degree of energy that the song will have.
Some genres such as hip-hop, R & B and funk put a greater emphasis on rhythm, the song is delivered rhythmically to the listener. In short, the rhythm of a song must have the three essential elements: the signature of time, the pulse and the tempo. The tempo is measured in bpm (beats per minute) and is considered a kind of speed in western popular music.

5. Dynamics and tension
An understanding of the dynamics is, without doubt, one of the most important skills the composer needs. In short: the dynamics of a song refers to the loud or silent form of a song. An understanding of the dynamics will help reinforce certain aspects of a song that you want to highlight; by using volume sparingly and thus causing interest in the listener.

6. Harmony and chords
Harmony is something to which, unconsciously, we are all receptive and this happens every time we listen to a piece of popular music. In English, simple refers to the basic relationships between the notes that make up the chords.
The word harmony is not exactly as essential as the rhythm and the melody; In fact, a large proportion of the music from around the world is technically a harmony. A clear example is the music of India, the melodies have to see each other, moving around the framework of a basic rhythm.
